Our Vision & Mission

Vision

We envision a world where every young person feels seen, supported, and inspired to shape their future with confidence and dignity. A world where education adapts to the learner, connection comes first, and young people grow with purpose, pride, and possibility.

Mission

Our mission is to provide a small, trauma-informed Montessori education for students in Years 4–9 who have become disengaged from mainstream schooling. Through strong relationships, purposeful work, and flexible learning pathways, we support young people to rebuild trust in education, develop independence, and discover meaningful pathways forward.

Our Charter

Our Charter sets out the shared commitments that guide life at Southern Skies Montessori. It reflects our belief that everyone belongs, that responsibility is shared, and that learning should have purpose.

Grounded in respect, emotional safety, and meaningful contribution, our Charter shapes how we build community, resolve challenges, and support young people to grow with dignity and integrity.

Our Story (Founders)

Southern Skies Montessori was founded by experienced Montessori teachers and school leaders who have worked in Australia and overseas. Our founders hold internationally recognised Montessori diplomas across primary and adolescent levels and have served in Montessori leadership roles within the wider Montessori community. With many years of classroom and leadership experience, they are committed to delivering authentic Montessori education adapted for today’s social and emotional needs.

After seeing more young people disengage from mainstream schooling, they set out to create a model that combines strong Montessori practice with trauma-informed support.

The school is guided by this experienced leadership team and a Board of dedicated volunteer directors who provide governance oversight and share a commitment to building safe, purpose-driven learning communities. Together, we are creating schools where young people are known, supported, and encouraged to grow.

Our Locations

Southern Skies Montessori is planning on launching its first campuses in Queensland on the Sunshine Coast in 2027, followed by Ipswich in 2028. These are two regions where the need for flexible, relationship-based education is growing.

Both locations have strong communities and increasing numbers of young people who require alternative pathways to remain engaged in learning. Our campuses are intentionally small, less than 72 students, allowing us to build safe, connected environments where students are known, supported, and valued.

As we grow, we aim to expand thoughtfully — ensuring each new campus maintains the same commitment to belonging, independence, and meaningful work.

Why a Special Assistance School?

Across Southeast Queensland, many capable young people are disengaging from mainstream education due to trauma, anxiety, neurodivergence, or complex life circumstances. Traditional school structures are often not designed to provide the flexibility, relational depth, and therapeutic support these students require.

As a Special Assistance School, Southern Skies Montessori offers a smaller, relationship-based environment with integrated wellbeing support and personalised learning pathways. This model allows us to prioritise safety, belonging, and regulation — creating the conditions young people need to rebuild trust in education and move forward with confidence.

Our Approach

Southern Skies Montessori brings together authentic Montessori education, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming practice, and the specialised structure of a Special Assistance School.

Our model is intentionally designed to meet young people where they are — combining independence with safety, purpose with structure, and academic growth with integrated wellbeing support.
